“You already understand B1 texts reliably, but when you produce German yourself, case endings and word order in subordinate clauses pull you back to A2+.”
Next milestone: B1 in writing — connect sentences into one coherent text, give reasons beyond und/aber, control word order in subordinate clauses.

Week 1
Writing · 10 min · Rewrite your three sentences with the verb in the wrong place, then write five new ones about your work with weil/obwohl. Goal: verb at the end in all five.
Speaking · 5 min · Record yourself explaining your job in four sentences. Goal: no restart.
Weeks 2–4 …
One German level rarely tells the whole story.
You might understand B1 texts but still write at A2. Or speak confidently while accuracy lags behind. That's why GOI doesn't average everything into one score: reading, listening, language use, writing, speaking and interaction are assessed separately — and your recommended starting level is based on what you can actually produce.
Not one level. Your actual profile.
How it works
- Copy the test with the button.
- Paste it into a new AI chat. The test starts in text chat; for listening, speaking and conversation it asks you to switch to voice mode once, in the same chat, and hide the on-screen transcript while you listen. No voice mode? No problem — everything else works in text.
- Take the test. Tasks get harder until you reach your real limit. No dictionary, translator or other help.
- Get your profile — and save it. Download the PDF or copy the report: it exists only in your AI chat, and GOI does not store anything.
Which AI works best?
All three work, free plans included (with usage limits). The voice part works best in the phone app.
What you get
- Your level in every skill, your recommended starting level and your German in one clear sentence
- Your CEFR map: your level, your own estimate and your next milestone marked on the official CEFR grid
- A real language analysis: your error profile, your texts in numbers, and how you understand main points, details and implied meaning
- A 4-week plan built from your own mistakes and your own goal — with exact tasks and success criteria
- Your next milestone and your benchmark for next time: exactly what you need to show to reach the next level
- On request: every answer corrected, with short explanations, an improved version of your text and practice sentences
- A PDF in GOI design to keep — if your AI can create files. Otherwise copy the report: nothing is stored anywhere else.

Need an official certificate?
No placement test — including this one — replaces an official exam. For visas, citizenship, university or employers you need an accepted certificate, e.g. from Goethe, telc, ÖSD or TestDaF. And general level is not the same as exam readiness: a B2 profile does not prove you will pass a specific B2 exam.
